I was lucky enough to watch the
Fillies game against Boronia and do we have a great ladies sorry girls
team, to their credit Boronia made it a very good game to see. Tegan
once again proved what a good striker she is scoring the second goal
this after hitting the crossbar twice,the score was locked at0 0 half
time but the deadlock was broken midway through the second half when
Becky who had played well hit a drive passed their keeper to give us
a well deserved lead ,right footed as she is this one was scored with
her left.Fighting till end Boronia forced Britt to make a great save
at the end to tip a good shot over the bar.Marcus should be congratulated
in producing this really good side , well played all of you girls.
Safe from relegation Billy opted to rest himself
from the side against Brandon Park and made a few changes introducing
more youngsters into the first team .The scoreline does not reflect
the game itself ,chances were missed and mistakes in defence cost us
dearly however the Strikers scene augers well for next year.The same
could be said for the reserve side who came away with a draw it was
disappointing to have a home team linesman who knew very little about
the rules of the game, enough said.

It was a black day for Strikers on Saturday with both sides giving up
the six points on offer.In the reserve game we held a 3 1 lead into
the second half but using the pretty solid wind to their advantage Fitzroy
clawed their way back into the game and halfway through the second half
in a ten minute spell with some bad defensive lapses scored three goals
and they held this score to the whistle.In their defence team changes
and an opponent taller and heavier than our lads did not help our cause.The
first team game will unfortunately be remembered for the clash of heads
between young Jordan and Billy until this accident play had very even
with Theo getting the easiest chance very early in the game to give
us the lead but from three feet out he blasted the ball past the post.After
the game had been stopped for at least twenty minutes with Jordan having
to go off in an ambulance play resumed and as if still in some shock
we lost a goal , a seemingly innocuous cross had one of their forwards
stretching out for the ball and it finished wide of Peter in goal 0
1 at half time once again I feel we lost our way in the second half
we played with the wind but it fell away as the game progressed, our
attacks on their goal were handled by a very tall defensive back line
but in saying this we had chances to score but bad finishing on these
occasions kept us scoreless.A Fitzroy player played a ball into our
box Peter came out caught the ball whilst facing an illegal challenge
from one of their forwards to the amazement to every player of both
teams the young ref who had had a good game pointed to the spot why
we shall never know ,justice was done however as the penalty was hit
high over the bar .This was to be our only let off as shortly after
this they added another goal and the floodgates seem to open as they
took two more chances with our defence not marking players .Mornington
next who seem to be in good form

Coaches Report 10/7/10 Sth Springvale
Vs Peninsula Strikers
With the Strikers playing Sth Springvale who were 2nd on the table,
most people had pencilled in a win for Sth Springvale, all except for
coach Billy Armour who was quietly confident that we could win &
take 3 valuable points away.
Armour was forced to make changes before the game had even started with
Jeremy Schwellinger who pulled out sick on the morning of the game,
while undertaking the warm up Hugo also was required to be replace after
a niggling hamstring which prevented him taking the field. As always
this gives an opportunity for young promising players to step up to
the senior squad as was the case for 15 Year Old Jordan Bellerini as
he was given his 1ST Start, this young lad played exceptionally well
& didn't look out of place at right back.
Although the Strikers were under a lot of pressure against the wind
in the 1st half all players battled hard to keep Springvale at bay creating
a couple of good chances of there own.
The 2ND half the Strikers were kicking with the wind & continued
to push forward. Early in the 2nd half the home side were awarded a
penalty which was scored after sending the Strikers keeper Peter Schwellinger
the wrong way. Though it wasn't long before we were on an even keel
again thanks to Matt Janson, whom put the ball past 1 Defender &
backed himself for pace beating the keeper to even the scores from 15
yards out making it all & game on.
The game was end to end with both teams wanting the win, though a point
away against one of the top teams was very pleasing.
Well done to young Jordan Bellerini on his debut for the seniors.

AFTER A POOR PERFORMANCE LAST
WEEK THE STRIKERS MADE A FEW POSITIONAL CHANGES BRINGING JOE CARROL
IN DEFENCE & PUSHING MATT JANSON UP FRONT WITH BOTH PLAYING WELL.
IN THE 1ST HALF THE STRIKERS CREATED SOME GOOD CHANCES, THE CROYDON
KEEPER SAVING WELL. MATT JANSON OPENED HIS SENIOR ACCOUNT WITH A WELL
STRUCK SHOT FROM THE EDGE OF THE BOX THAT FLEW INTO THE TOP CORNER,
THE STRIKERS WERE ON TOP BUT JUST COULDN’T FIND THE 2ND GOAL.
10 MINS AFTERHALF TIME COOKIE HAD A CHANCE TO MAKE IT 2 NIL WHICH THE
GOAL KEEPER SAVED WITH HIS FEET, CROYDON WERE PRESSURING THE STRIKERS
WHO HELD FIRM UNTIL CROYDON WERE AWARDED A PENALTY AFTER THE BALL BOUNCED
FROM HAGGERTYS KNEE TO HIS HAND. WITH PETER SWELLENGER DIVING TO HIS
LEFT HE MADE A BRILLIANT SAVE PUSHING THE ROUND THE POST ONLY FOR THE
REFEREE TO CALL FOR A RETAKE FOR SOMEONE ENCROACHING INTO THE BOX, AT
THE 2ND ATEMPT THE PENALTY WAS SCORED 1 ALL. THE STRIKERS DESERVED TO
WIN, HUGO, JOE & JANSON WERE ALL OUTSTANDING.
NUNAWADING
A DAY TO FORGET FOR THE STRIKERS,
WE WERE NEVER IN THE GAME FROM THE 1ST WHISTLE. NUNAWADING DOMINATING
THE GAME WITH THE STRIKERS DEFENCE WORKING OVERTIME TO KEEP THEM AT
BAY IN VERY POOR CONDITIONS. PETER SWELLENGER WAS OUTSTANDING IN GOALS
MAKING A NUMBER OF SAVES, THE STRIKERS WERE LUCKY TO GO IN AT THE BREAK
NIL ALL. THE 2ND HALF WAS MUCH THE SAME & EVENTUALLY NUNAWADING
BROKE THE DEADLOCK WITH A CROSS FROM THE RIGHT WHICH WAS FINISHED OFF
AT THE BACK POST BY THE NUNAWADING STRIKER. THE STRIKERS WENT ON THE
ATTACK LOOKING FOR THE EQUALISER PUSHING EXTRA MEN FORWARD, NUNAWADING
FINALLY PUT THE GAME OUT OF REACH WITH A DEFLECTED SHOT PAST SWELLENGER.
THE STRIKERS MISS ANOTHER CHANCE TO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH THE TOP 4.

Round 11 1sts
Over the years we have played many hard fought games against Nunawading,
no more than when we won the league at their ground just a few years
ago. Yesterday they really came to play and other than some resolute
defending on our part we never did, our attacks were few and far between
and their keeper was put under no pressure and rarely touched the ball.
We never gave up but unless we got a shock goal it was our opponents
who would be the ones to score .Injuries and departures of vital players
have not helped with Billy's selection choices the return of MURAT was
great to hear, we hoped he would add attacking options however after
only about twenty minutes he went off with a back injury. Half time
came with a 0 - 0 deadlock if you have to say anything our defence can
at times become a fortress which opponents have to find a chink in,
this they did in the last quarter of the game a cross ball from the
right finding two players completely unmarked in the six yard box one
of whom gleefully hit the ball into the net, the icing on the cake came
five minutes later when a shot at goal inside the penalty box was deflected
by Billy into the net, game , set and match. But we shall regroup for
next Fridays away clash under lights at Croydon which sees the second
half of a vital begin.
Round 11 Reserves
Hopefully we have a lot of people, football supporters ,interested in
how the teams go in their weekend matches going into our website. I
am sure by now if you do read the reports that I really enjoy our stars
of tomorrow playing our very young reserve team, well yesterday we lost
by 3 - 1 however I am sure we learnt a lot from this game. Losing 2
- 1 at the break an Ali Wallace penalty we tried and tried to back on
even terms near misses were not enough to get us over the line this
time and a third goal sealed it for our visitors very late in the game.
Perhaps more composure on the ball rather than some wild kicking at
times might have helped, our opponents again were much older taller
and heavier and they contributed to what was an entertaining end to
end game which could have produced a lot more goals for both teams.
Stand out player for me was Jacob in goal who gave us a great goalkeeping
exhibition. Nunawading just about deserved the points this time hopefully
we shall in the return fixture.
Round 10 Firsts
A game of two halves for our senior eleven at City the first completely
dominated by us scoring two goals and in fact it could have a lot more
which should have written the game off for us but line clearances missed
chances kept it to the two goals.
The second half proved similar to the last game we fell away lost our
direction and allowed City to tie the game up by full time But from
our point of view another vital away point gained.
The game marked the last for Steve (Crouchey) Baxter who has headed
up to the snow for work.
Matt Pierce is also overseas for three weeks so more youngsters are
likely to feature in the squad.
Round 10 Reserves
Our youngsters will feel very disappointed with their performance against
Springvale City at the weekend.The performance was compounded by the
send off very early in the game of a City player,and rather than take
a strong hold on the game the reverse occurred as they took the game
to us.They scored goals to back this up ,Matt Wilson scored for us but
until the last fifteen minutes we gave a lack lustre showing.On the
coaches bench Dave and Jimmy made their moves pushing more men forward
and this bit of magic worked as first Evatt equalised and .then a winner
from Matt Janssen.Three points earned taking us into second position,lets
hope we get back to our best form in this weeks big game.
Round 9 Coaches Report
Peninsula Strikers V Brandon Park
It’s always a difficult
encounter when you face one of the lower placed teams in the competition,
although the Strikers came out firing and were soon on the attack creating
quite a few good chances before a play straight from the training park
unfolded seeing Peircey deliver a pin point cross to the left of Steve
Baxter (Crouchy) whom dived & headed the ball home from close range,
to give the Strikers a 1 nil lead.
Crouchy could have made it 2 nil, shortly after, when the keeper fumbled
a shot, in turn dropping the ball in to his path, only to see him knock
it wide.
Our boy’s had there back’s up & were full of confidence
playing some good football keeping their opponents on their toe’s,
until the heavens opened turning the game in to a very wet & slippery
pitch, conditions seeing both teams making unforced errors, due to the
unfamiliar conditions.
Peninsula continued to have the better of the situation when Chris McCafferty
broke through only to produce a poor finish, leaving the keeper an easy
save in the end.
Over the next 10 minutes Brandon Park found some space on the right
side of the park & was producing some dangerous balls in & around
the penalty area, only to find our defence up to the task. A short time
later a Brandon Park cross was cleared once again, only to see Armour
collided with keeper Dan Waite in the process leaving him dazed &
groggy, seeing Armour & Waite soldier on until the half time whistle.
During the half time break the
Strikers were forced to replace there keeper Dan Waite with Reserve
keeper, 15 yr old Jake Omera-Gill who has been in fantastic form all
season & is really one of the clubs finds.
During the second half, chances were being made by both sides, though
it was Brandon Park who surprised the gallant Strikers defence when
a header was deflected off a Peninsula Strikers shin leaving young Jacob
wrong footed & stranded making it 1 all & game on.
Brandon Park continued to threaten the Strikers goal when what could
have been a catastrophic goal and a nail in the Strikers coffin only
to see the young keeper make one of the best saves seen at Centenary
Park for many years, as Omera-Gill at full stretch to his right &
just doing enough to keep the ball out, the Strikers crowd were amazed
& those from Brandon Park were also appreciative of the keepers
agility as the young keeper receive a standing ovation from the crowd.
Armour knew time was starting to run out for his team & made two
replacements bring on Steve Finnocairo & 16 YEAR OLD striker Gabby
Lawrence. It wasn’t long before both lads were making their presents
felt with various balls being put through to the young speedster who
indeed didn’t let Armour down scoring the winner with a clinical
finish from 18 yards out with only 7 minutes to go. Our Strikers hanging
on to win 2-1 & continue there good run of results placing them
5th on the table.

Round 9 1sts
It has been a long time since both teams endured such bad conditions
as they did on Saturday there were even calls for the floodlights to
be switched on until they were reminded that we had none. Brandon Park
certainly brought the rain with them however in the first half very
little else . Playing what could best be described as pretty football,side
passes ,back passes and finally a forward pass but it created nothing
and if it did make it into our defensive area it was capably dealt with
by our defence.
We attacked in raids however the shots we had at goal were restricted
to outside of the box and a giant of a keeper easily dealt with these
efforts.
But a goal had to come and when Steve Baxter ghosted in on the left
flank he deflected a right wing cross in to the net.
With the torrential rain coming down we went in at half time with a
seemingly comfortable lead.
What ever the opposing coach said to his players at half time it was
a completely different approach shown by our opponents in the second
half .
Positional changes had been made and Brandon Park now played a direct
method of attacking football.
We started to fall away in mid field and the passing game that had worked
so well in the first half
got lost and we continually gave the ball away putting our opponent's
on the attack.
Once again it was left to our back line to try and eat up all the pressure
however an equalizer looked destined to come and it did.
A right wing cross found their play maker in the box who headed on to
another forward standing in the six yard box and he too headed on somehow
the ball literally scraped under Billy Armours foot and to his amazement
crossed the line pass a stranded keeper.
Brandon Park then chased the winner putting our defence under extreme
pressure and indeed from a free kick the ball did find its way into
our net however thankfully the linesman had his flag up for off side.
Seemingly with supporters leaving the ground thinking it was going to
end in a draw a long through ball found Gabriel Lawrence who rounded
his opponent and calmly stroked the ball past the advancing keeper.
Three vital points gained WELL DONE BOYS.
Round 9 Reserves
Some sublime football by the youngsters highlighted by a magnificently
headed goal by Matt in the second half brought us another three points
on Saturday.Brandon Park could not be described as the best reserve
side to visit us this year far from it but it sometimes happens that
they are the hardest teams to beat.It was not going to happen in this
game ,we took the game to them from the start and the goals and near
misses flowed through the team.By half time we were three nil up and
it could have been a lot more,the second half continued in the same
vein any of their few raids into our goal area were dealt with by Jacob
or our oldie Joe Russell,considering we have fourteen ,fifteen and mostly
sixteen year olds in the side Joe has got to be old.As I mentioned the
headed goal was worthy of the WorldCup a cross from the left which Matt
met and his head rocketed the ball into the net,our player coach thought
the youngster had taken a few tips from him,just one more goal to complete
the match for a 5 0 drubbing,great stuff
Round 8
Each week our young reserves will face new challenges in their quest
to pick up wins and league points .The game at Waverley proved to be
no exception, the ground was hard and bumpy the opponents again bigger
and more physical,but again to their credit they settled down straight
away and attacked from the start.We pounded their goal and could have
been 5 goals up in the first ten minutes, a goal just had to come,our
passing game eventually broke them down and Gabby Lawrence scored our
opening goal, another followed from a glancing header from Evatt Chirgwin
,shortly after this John Jovan dispatched the ball into the net from
a penalty,Waverley hit back to take us into the break 3 1 up.The second
half only produced one more goal for the match with David Jones brushing
aside defenders to add our fourth,another three points from an away
game

A hard match for the reserve saw them post a 2 2 draw ,their opponents
were much taller and stronger weight wise than our boys however such
is their positive approach to games at present that despite all . this
against them nothing was going to put them off their game.The inclusion
of John Jovan and Matt Pearce added experience to the youngsters line
up .Looking at the game a 2 2 draw was possibly a fair result
If at the end of the season the one point gained by the firsts against
Kingston ensures we remain in this league then we shall take it with
pleasure.Kingston never gave us time to settle and to say that they
had 90% of the game is a fair statement, we lost count of the attacks
repelled by the boys,in the back line there were all tremendous Billy
Gary and particular Daniel in goal were magnificent everybody played
some part in getting us this vital point but if I picked a man of the
match Daniel really stood out with a very safe pair of hands.The old
adage of never giving up can be taken from this game
Round 6 Reserves
The reserve team game against North Caulfield will stand in the memory
of all Strikers supporters who were able to attend this away fixture.Fielding
the youngest team ever in the history of our reserve teams , the players
gave a great performance in controlled football.Their was only one team
that was going to walk off the field with the points and that was going
to be us .Dave and Jimmy best described it as champagne football.Well
done to the whole squad coaches included.We hope to see all you boys
make the first team in years to come .Good luck this week against Kingston
Round 5
Supporters leaving the ground last Saturday were scratching their heads
in disbelief how had the scoreline been only 2 0 yes we were lucky it
was only just that.Giving our worst for many a time the scoreline flattered
us , a cross ball to one of their forwards saw the ball headed through
the hands of Dan in goal on another day he would have saved it but not
today. Each time we went forward our passing let us down continually
giving the ball away to our opponents.What was considered a fortress
at home last year has developed leaks this year six valuable points
going to the visitors.1 0 down at half time the second half did not
improve and as if to seal this poor performance we scored the second
goal for them. The game will no doubt cause Billy a big headache until
we get the team back to full strength we shall be finding it very hard
to pick up points.It was also not our reserves day going down 2 1 to
a top of the table side unbeaten this year.

Round 4
In our first ever league match with Mornington, this local derby was
to prove a dour struggle with both teams desperate for some much needed
points. Billy was forced to make a few changes due to injuries and unavailable
players. The wind blew all through the game so each team had an advantage
in each half. We started with the wind at our backs and apart from a
few half chances we did nothing to indicate we could score an opening
goal, in fact it was the visitors who had the best chance to score when
they were awarded a penalty whether it was old knowledge or not but
Daniel Waite dived the correct way to pull off a vital save, Daniels
handling of the ball throughout the game was immaculate. The second
half continued the same pattern as the first, Mornington having the
better of the game but our defence holding out Gary earned his second
yellow so we were down to 10 players it made no difference Mornington
just could not organise themselves and Jammo would have been very disapointed
with his players efforts. Mornington then had a player sent off. We
had been attacking in breakaways and in one such move Steve Baxter played
a great ball down the middle to Jeremey Schwellinger and he hit it past
their keeper for our well earned points.
The conclusion reached after this 4 4 draw is that our youngsters never
know when they are beaten. Facing one of our grounds windswept days
we found ourselves 2 0 down in five minutes of play .We just could not
get our game going and gave a very disappointing performance in the
first half . Dave and Jimmy gave the boys a lot of sound advice at half
time .We clawed our way back into the game with a goal but let another
in, so with ten minutes to go we were down 4 2 and seemingly headed
for our first loss but what a ten minutes, we scored another five to
go then another we pressed for the winner but in the end settled for
a well earned point well done boys.
Saturdays match was our first local derby to be held at our ground for
many years.
We are reminded in the past history of our matches with Langwarrin Seaford
and Pines.
The game itself did not produce great football but three things really
stood out for me that we had our best match day attendance for a long
time.
The great support from our junior section, the mums and dads attending
the game plus the half time game put on by a junior team, finally perhaps
the best the ground was awash with old players either having played
at the club or having moved to Frankston adopted our club or just Langy
boys given us their support in all it set the whole place buzzing, so
I say local derby’s bring them on.
Without being boring I feel it worth while to mention the past players
at the game that I saw just walking around sorry if I have missed any
of you.
Mornington also contributed to the day by including in their line up
some past players of our club, including Cam Leopold, Greg Kilner and
Andy Skledar even Adam Jamieson their coach who came through our junior
ranks at Skye Rovers our original junior club.
For a start we have got our golden oldies who played for the old Frankston
City club Graham Baulk Frank Thompson Peter De Jonge the Skelly brothers
now at Langwarrin Brian and Jimmy goal keeping ace Peter Blasby
and also Tony Hall.

Round 3
FITZROY STARTED THE GAME THE BETTER AND SOON HAD THE 1ST GOAL ON THE
BOARD WITHIN 10MINS AN OWN GOAL. THE USUALLY SOUND DEFENCE WAS LOOKING
SHAKEY. SOON AFTER THE GOAL ARMOUR BROUGHT DOWN THE FITZROY STRIKER
FOR A PENALTY WHICH WAS CLINICALLY DESPATCHED INTO THE TOP CORNER 2
NIL.
AFTER A FEW STEARN WORDS AT HALF TIME THE STRIKERS CAME OUT A NEW TEAM
& SOON PILED ON THE PRESSURE AND PULLED A GOAL BACK THROUGH THEO.
THE STRIKERS MISSING 2-3 ONE ON ONE CHANCES WITH ONLY THE GOALKEEPER
TO BEAT. WITH A CORNER KICK FITZROY HEADED THEMSELVES OUT OF SIGHT FROM
THE FRAILING STRIKERS. ANOTHER DAY WHEN THE STRIKERS MISSED CHANCES
& POOR DEFENDING COST THEM.
Our youngsters kept their unbeaten record with an away draw at Fitzroy
seemingly out of the game losing 2 0 they fought back in the second
half Chris converting a penalty and Sein George getting the all important
equaliser we could have then won the game with a few near chances but
an away point is an away point
Round 2
Our young reserves again kept a clean sheet against a more experienced
opponent end to end chances in the second half could have seen the three
points go either way so a draw was perhaps the best ending Going into
the first team game with two enforced changes then having to make two
injury forced changes before half time also did nothing to help our
cause against a well organized SOUTH SPRINGVALE we made a great start
and for the first ten minutes took the game up to our opponents then
it stopped their midfield took a grip on the game and holes began to
appear in our defence when we did get the ball in their area their keeper
and defenders easily dealt with our efforts Although their first goal
had a touch of offside about it they deserved their lead and it was
no surprise when they scored again a forward all alone in the box under
no pressure allowed to pick his spot The third again had an element
of offside about it but again a goal was given after this we made two
substitutes through injuries one of these was John Jovan somebody you
don't want to lose half time couldn't have come fast enough Drew Reid
who had come on as sub began to find his feet amongst older opponents
and from a ball he put into the box it was passed onto Matt Pearce who
had found room on the left he hit the ball hard into the corner of their
net The goal gave us a lift and we tried for a second however a bad
pass outside their area led to them taking the ball the length of the
field to score another goal The boys heads really dropped and they could
have scored more but didn't like the wind stopping they did and we came
back we missed three great chances and a good goal not given after their
goalie brought the ball back from over the line. A 4 1 loss. Next week
will be a different game but we must go into the game like we approached
Croydon.
Football our round ball code needs all the help it can get on the Peninsula
to this end Peninsula Strikers would like to thank the many supporters
of Langwarrin Pines and Seaford who attended our game against Springvale
yesterday WE URGE ALL SUPPORTERS IF YOUR TEAM ARE PLAYING AWAY AND YOU
DONT INTEND TO GO, ATTEND ANOTHER LOCAL GAME KEEP THAT ROUND BALL ROLLING.
What a great start to the season
for the club our visitors Croydon City Arrows went home pointless from
the two matches played, Dave and Jimmy's very young reserve started

Like the rebuilding of the first team squad the reserve coaching duo
have done the same and to the youngsters credit they tried to play good
football all through the match, could our first x1 emulate the youngsters
they certainly could with captain coach Billy Armour old reliables Robbie
and Gary Marshalling the defence the safe pair of hands of new signing
in goal Daniel Waite kept Croydon scoreless until an injury time goal
this was not enough however to cancel out a goal in each half from Steve
(Crouchy) Baxter and sub Theo who scored after five minutes after coming
from the bench lets keep this good start going against Springvale next
week.
Our fabulous Fillies took to the field on Sunday in their first game
and kept the winning streak going with a 3- 1 win the girls top goal
scorer from last year Tegan Horvat getting 2 of the goals.
To complete all this good news Marcus Brownlee has returned to our fold.

2010 pre season training has started under Bill Armour at Strikers.
The change over in coaching personnel has also meant the usual mad time
Of players coming and going.
A number of last years 1st team squad are trying out with Cranbourne
where George Hughes and Duggie have now taken up their home. We have
heard that the Ventieri brothers, Jarryd Barnes, and Negus are there.
Joey Donaghy is at Bentleigh Greens and Derrick Chisholm is supposedly
at Doncaster.
There are many others players too that are not as yet in training, however
at least 40 players are in training and there is a long way to go before
the 1st match.
All intending players are invited to attend training at McClelland Drive
on
Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 7:00pm
