Round 18
8th September, 2002
Frankston Young Guns Drew With Langwarrin A 2 – 2
The last game of the season and playing against an opponent who needed a win to secure the league championship for 2002, the pitch was not going to be a place for any player trying to hide.
At least with 11 fit players and yes one on the bench it was a much better situation then faced for a number of weeks now.
The YOUNG GUNS had hardly walked on to the pitch however before LANGWARRIN were one up, surly one of the quickest goals of the season.
Was this to be a foretaste of the afternoon? Definitely not said the boys in green and
navy and set about peppering the blue goal with long range efforts, and securing a foot hold in the game.
From a left hand side move a cross found captain courageous LAURENCE who drove home an equalizer. This leveling of the game was short lived for in another LANGWARRIN attack DAMIEN BRADBURY YOUNG GUNS keeper supposedly pulled down a LANGY player KEVIN ILES did not miss from the penalty spot.
The second half opened with the YOUNG GUNS saying to LANGY "you have not won yet" and we again made many attacks, however good goal keeping frustrated an equalizer.
LANGY attacked too but without any real idea of how they could add to the score line, thus it was another YOUNG GUN attack, it forced the LANGY goal keeper out of position a clearance went directly to LAURENCE who scored his second goal of the day. Despite RYAN and ANDY getting close and LANGY'S second half secret weapon PETER PATRAKIS completely marked out of the game by STEVE, who had a brilliant game in defence.
A good performance to finish on by the YOUNG GUNS for season 2002.

Frankston Young Guns Lost to Seaford A 4 - 2
Once again, anybody looking at the score line might say the usual performance from the YOUNG GUNS, but they would be wrong.
Once again, in what can best be describe as a real gutsy effort from the ten players that took the field, soon to be nine with Stuart Doolan pulling a hamstring late in the first half, but continued to play. Seven players were unavailable again ------- so what's new.
To the game itself, both teams battled to control the ball, with shots coming from both ends. A penalty saw Ryan Lee step up and slot the ball and then a great one two from Ryan to Kevin Jones saw us score our second.
Once again the boys were always in the game but just couldn’t slot home any of the good chances they had. Tired legs again cost us dearly.

Frankston Young Guns Lost to Pines Condors A 5-2
Anybody looking at the score line might say the usual performance from the YOUNG GUNS, but they would be wrong.
In what can best be described as a real gutsy effort from the ten players that took the field. Seven players were unavailable ------- so what's new.
Of the ten who took the park, one should have rested a bad knee injury, one was injured during the game but refused to go off and finally early in the second half one had to go off and stay off with a pulled hamstring so nine players battled on.
To the game itself, only a post a bar and a CONDORS hand -------- no penalty given stopped YOUNG GUNS from scoring goals in the first ten minutes.
The gusty wind marred the game through out as both teams battled to control the ball.
Five minutes before half time the CONDORS took an undeserved lead.
Early in the second half a KEVIN JONES free kick brought a much needed YOUNG GUNS goal, however CONDORS were taking full advantage of an undermanned opponent and added two goals.
A penalty award to CONDORS for a minor infringement, saw DAMIEN BRADBURY pull off a great save which the YOUNG GUN players considered just reward, better was to come, RYAN LEE always a danger up front chased down a CONDOR player gained the ball and squared it to KEVIN JONES who slotted home.
The YOUNG GUNS had just about their all and two late goals by CONDORS exaggerated the score line.

Frankston Young Guns Lost to Mornington A 5-3
Despite another loss some consolation can be taken from the YOUNG GUNS team effort.
Again fielding a weakened team due to work and injuries the YOUNG GUNS found themselves 1 - 0 down after a short period of play, however they managed to get their game together and from long through ball RYAN LEE scored.
YOUNG GUNS began to take control of the game and when captain LAURENCE HALL found himself in the MORNINGTON penalty box he seized on an opportunity with determined effort to drive home number 2 goals.
Another mistake by a YOUNG GUN defender gave MORNINGTON an equalizer before half time.
The fortunes of the YOUNG GUNS was to turn in the second half as experienced through all of this season they have played without any luck and shortly after half time a penalty was awarded against keeper DAMIEN BRADBURY.
Thank you said MORNINGTON.
Even worse was to follow trying to shrug off having his shirt tugged ANDREW HOLLOW was sent off for retaliation a some what harsh decision and MORNINGTON took advantage with another goal. RYAN LEE continued to pressure the MORNINGTON defence and was rewarded with another goal.
MORNINGTON then scored a resistance breaking goal and thus won 5 -3.

Frankston Young Guns Lost to Mornington A 3-2 Golden Goal
Here was a game which could have been won should have been won but was lost.
A well worked move, five minutes from the half time break saw a great ball from SIMON PARROTT to RYAN LEE who netted a great goal.
It had been a tough uncompromising first half with everything on the line for both teams. The second half opened well for the YOUNG GUNS the same pair involved in the first goal played a part in the second with SIMON this time the goal scorer.
Did the YOUNG GUNS relax with this goal, if they did MORNINGTON seized the moment because the previously solid defence shown now became decidedly shaky, holes appeared in the defence and was no surprise when MORNINGTON scored a goal. From a seemingly off side position the linesman had his flag up the MORNINGTON player chipped over GARY MEASHAMS head for a goal.
The second goal was down to sloppy marking giving the opposition forward the easiest of chances to score.
Golden goals arrived and once again in the second period of extra time a MORNINGTON forward with no defender around him easily scored the winner.

Frankston Young Guns Lost to Hampton Park A 7 – 2
The YOUNG GUNS took a hiding at home to HAMPTON PARK 7-2, at one stage it was 2-2 but the team is so injury plagued that the other players drafted in look out of their depth at this level.
The only good news is STEVE OAKLEY back at the club is showing great form, perhaps he will consider a return to senior soccer next season. RYAN LEE again showed what a valuable striker he is by scoring the YOUNG GUNS goals. And our star recruit CHRIS JONES also laid the ball off well up front to support Ryan.

Round 12
14th July, 2002
Frankston Young Guns Lost to Boronia Knights 3 - 1
Giving goals away has become a part of the YOUNG GUNS game this season, within fifteen minutes after the start BORONIA were leading 2-0, bad defensive mistakes were duly punished by some eager forwards. Despite having much of the first half after that the YOUNG GUNS could not break down the KNIGHTS defence.
The half time talk did nothing to stop another goal shortly after the restart.
Perhaps this was a wakeup call to the YOUNG GUNS they now continued to have more of the ball.
Pressure was now being put on the BORONIA goal and it was from a left sided play that a cross found top goal scorer RYAN LEE who slotted the ball home.
Near misses now followed a header off the BORNIA goal line denied YOUNG GUNS their second goal.
Many club members are asking about the obvious quality of the YOUNG GUN players however until they all play as a team and get that much needed luck it could be an up hill battle till the end of the season.

Round 11

Frankston Young Guns Lost to Franchester United 3 - 2
An extremely disappointing result for the Young Guns having gained their first win of the season at Rosebud last week they were hoping to gain more necessary points to lift them off the bottom of the ladder, however a much more competitive Outlaws outfit took all 3 points.
Dave Buckley in goal for Young Guns made a bad mistake from a cross dropping the ball at the feet of Lee Windsor who slotted the ball home.
Young Guns equalizing goal came from a good move from midfield ending with Ryan Lee hitting home over the advancing keeper.
Simon Parrott some minutes later headed home a cross to give the Young Guns the lead.
A needless penalty brought the equalizer before half time. The second half produced an end to end game but always one felt the Outlaws had the measure of Young Guns.
Another unfortunate error by keeper Buckley gave the Outlaws the lead in this club derby.
Young Guns had a great chance to get at least a draw from the game when Ryan Lee was up ended in the penalty box but Kevin Jones completely missed the goal from the resultant penalty.

Round 10

Frankston Young Guns defeated Rosebud A 5 - 3
Chasing a two nil deficit after only twenty minutes at Rosebud is always a tall order. However with a new spirit in the team The Young Guns began clawing themselves back into the game.
A strong attack on the Rosebud's goal finished with Kevin Jones driving the ball home.
An inspired Steve Murtagh then won the ball on the right wing crossing to Simon Parrott who was brought down in the box, Kevin Jones hit home the resultant penalty sending the sides into the half time break 2-2.
What a second half for The Young Guns always under pressure from the Rosebud's attack, long balls out of defence began to catch the slower Bud's defenders out.
Keeper Damian Bradbury sent a long clearance into the Bud's half. A Bud's defender miss headed the ball to Simon Parrott who ran on to give The Young Guns the lead, this same player five minutes later again found himself in a good position to score and he made no mistake. The best goal of the afternoon again came from a long ball out of defence, which found Simon Parrott, who sent Ryan Lee away, a pass to David Rossetto and he slotted home.
As usual Rosebud did not give up and perhaps in some justice scored the final goal of the day. A great first league win of the season for The Young Guns.

Frankston Young Guns Lost to Langwarrin A 3-0 on forfeit
A disappointing result for the Young Guns on the weekend with the boys only being able to find eight players. 5 players on the day ringing up sick or having work commitments. A far contrast from last week where we had players missing out on a game. Unfortunately this was the first time that we have had to forfeit a game a big disappointment for the coach and the players who turned up on the day.
Next week sees the start of the second half of the season, the Young Guns are committed to make this half a great half.

Round 8
16th June, 2002
Frankston Young Guns Drew with Seaford A 5 - 5
A clash that produced an extraordinary ten goals in the Bayside Division One on Sunday.
Seeking their first league points of the season the YOUNG GUNS took the game right up to SEAFORD in the opening twenty minutes carving out many chances but failing to find the back of the net.
Coming off the bench SIMON PARROTT cut his way through the SEAFORD defence to score the vital opening goal. The game swung end to end producing near misses but no goals until the last minutes of the first half when from a SEAFORD corner DAVE BUCKLEY in goal dropped the ball at the feet of a SEAFORD forward who scored from close range.
In what can only be describe as a defences nightmare to a forwards joy the second half produced eight shared goals.
At one stage the YOUNG GUNS were losing 3-1 however a fighting spirit among the team got them back on level terms, the game see-sawed to the very end with the score at 5 goals each and in the last minute of the game RYAN LEE thought he had completed his hat trick and a 6 -5- win but was ruled off side.
SEAFORD A did their part in making this a very entertaining game.

Frankston Young Guns Versus Bye

2nd June, 2002
Frankston Young Guns Defeated Mornington B 5-2
Scorers: Simon Parrott 2, D.Rosetto, S.Doolan & D.Buckley
A much better performance by the Young Guns saw them have a convincing win against Mornington B.
Although, the boys still missed many a chance, which must be converted and poor marking cost us the two goals.
Overall a good result for the Young Guns, finally back on the winning track.

Round 6
May 26th
Frankston Young Guns Lost to Pines Condors 2-1
A much better display of soccer for the Young Guns still couldn't see them get a point on the weekend.
The team this week had sixteen players on the team sheet a far cry from the ten last week against Mornington.
Despite having players back and new signing Simon Parrott the boys could not penetrate hard enough to score that much needed equaliser. We fought hard all game but the luck just didn't follow us.
Next week sees us play Mornington B in the Cup, at least we still have a chance of getting one piece of silverware this season?????

Round 5
May19th
Frankston Young Guns Lost to Mornington A 7 - 0
Well the score sheet says it all, a very disappointing result for the TEN players who travelled down to Mornington on the weekend. All players tried their hardest but we were never in the hunt with a 4-0 half time score, not to mention a pretty soft tackle costing Ryan Lee a red card to add to our woes.
The second half saw the Young Guns come out with some fight, stopping Mornington scoring until the last 15 minutes. We had some chances but couldn't put the ball away.
Next week sees the Young Guns play Pines Condors, hopefully we will have a full squad with 5 players unavailable last week with work commitments, holidays, caddying or being sick and not to mention our coach coming back off a well deserved holiday in sunny Port Douglas.
Good luck Young Guns, we are going to need it.

Round 4
May 12th
Frankston Young Guns Lost to Hampton Park 3-0
Once again a very disappointing display from the Young Guns, like usual asleep in the first minutes of the game cost us a quick goal, which we really didn’t recover from. Poor talking and marking cost us a second.
We did however have a few attacks at goal but failed to capitalize on them, with one cross even trickling across the whole goal line.
2 - 0 at have time, saw us come out with a little fight in the second half but once a cross similar to the other goals was slotted, we new it was all over. We did however keep fighting and nearly slotted a goal, at the end
Mornington next week, a big game for us, one which we must win to get a bit (a lot) of confidence for the rest of the season.

The Frankston Young Guns we would like to apologise for the Frankston Young Guns versus Boronia Knights match report and to assure Boronia and the Bayside Soccer League officials that future articles will be fully reviewed prior to being posted on the web site and remain unbiased towards any particular club, officials or persons involved in the game being reviewed. The intention of these match reports is to promote the Frankston Teams and therefore (hopefully) the Bayside League.

Round 3
April 28th
Frankston Young Guns Lost to Boronia Knights 4 - 3
Despite another loss this game will give some optimism to the YOUNG GUNS for the coming weeks. Starting with only ten players the boys fell behind very early in the game and despite ANDY HOLLOW making a surprise turn out a 3-0 score at half time just about summed up a poor first half performance.
The second half proved that the YOUNG GUNS are not a bottom of the table team. Stuart Doolan who had made several attacking moves on BORONIA'S goal finally netted a mistimed shot, which bounced awkwardly on the poor service in the goal area.
Continual pressure on BORONIA'S goal saw a free kick awarded just outside the penalty box the resulting shot somehow found its way to LAURENCE HALL who slotted a good goal.
Poor defending cost us a fourth goal however RYAN LEE at last got his deserved goal but despite continual pressure we could not get the equaliser.

Cup round
April 21st
Frankston Young Guns defeated Inter Milangy 6-3
The Young Guns playing against Intermilangy had a very nervous afternoon despite having scored three goals in the first five minutes. Fitness is again is a worry for the side and they allowed their opponents to draw level and also miss a penalty.
The thought that they could have been 4--3 down seemed to motivate them and they scored another 3 quick goals to win 6-3 David Rossetto scored a hat trick.

Round 2
April 14th
Frankston Young Guns Lost To Franchester United 3-2
The Outlaws versus the Young Guns home derby was definitely the game of a fit team against an unfit team, the Outlaws did not deserve to go in at half time loosing 1-0 and came out in the second half to rectify the situation three quick goals put them in the box seat and despite a late consolation goal from the Young Guns the Outlaws continue their good start to the 2002 campaign.

April 7th
Frankston Young Guns Lost To Rosebud A 3-0
The opening round of competition produced mixed results for our Bayside teams.
The Young Guns who finished fourth in the first division last season played at home to Rosebud, having made some new signings in the pre season the side was expected to give a good account. However apart from the opening twenty minutes Rosebud controlled the game the 3-0 loss was a reflection of the play.
